Akiko Matsuura is a Japanese musician, singer, and songwriter. She is best known as the drummer and vocalist for the experimental rock band Comanechi. Matsuura was born in Osaka, Japan and later moved to London, where she formed Comanechi with guitarist Simon Petrovitch in 2005. The band quickly gained a reputation for their energetic live performances and unique blend of noise rock, punk, and pop.
In addition to her work with Comanechi, Matsuura has collaborated with a number of other musicians and artists, including Iggy Pop, Thurston Moore, and Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. She has also released solo music under the moniker The Big Pink.
Matsuura's drumming style is known for its intensity and precision, and her vocal delivery is often described as raw and powerful. She has been praised for her fearless approach to music and her ability to push boundaries in both her performance and songwriting.
